Restoring America's Sanity
Two major factors have led American down the road of dangerous liberalism.
The first is the liberal dominance over America's educational system. This problem has roots going back to late 19th century (and the Progressive era) and is most clearly manifested by left-wing school boards at the local level and ubiquitous radical professors at the university level.
The second root is the relative peace and prosperity experienced by America during the past twenty years. Though temporarily interrupted by the 9/11 attacks, America has been approaching our role in the world in normal stride. The war in Iraq has been successfully portrayed as an unnecessary diversion, not as a vital component of American security. Indeed, America pursued a "guns and butter" approach during the early 21st century, which contributed to large persistent budget deficits and muted any sense of shared sacrifice.
Liberal graduates from America's top schools have taken important positions in the news media. Lacking a deep sense of history, these individuals promote and communicate a left-wing ideology, often in subtle ways. For example, a reasonably balanced news article will be accompanied by a seriously biased headline. Reporters will interview or select for broadcast those messages that match their worldview. This is a secondary ramification of America's biased educational system.

Much has been written on these factors. The roots have been well researched and documented. This article does not deal with these root causes, but with a more urgent, compelling question? At this late stage, how can America be saved from itself?
Conservatives and libertarians must now assume we are in the minority. While I hope otherwise, if the assumption is true, we can never regain control over Americaâs destiny by organizing ourselves. We can be 100 million strong and hold 10,000 tea parties and still be the butt of liberal's abuse. This is not a winning recipe to reclaim America. To win, we must bring Liberals over the great divide into the Conservative camp.
Now, liberals are highly indoctrinated (in school and elsewhere) to reject conservative thought. Their basis for reality is often a "narrative," which is a fictional account of the world as they wish it to be or as they wish to create it.
Liberals are quite skilled at reinterpreting events to fit their narrative. To liberals, all history is fiction; or more precisely a narrative crafted by the historian to advocate the historian's worldview. Thus, they believe that history is unknowable. As conservatives know, he who fails to learn from history is doomed to repeat it. They are also well trained at personal attacks, meaning the insults will fly if you attempt a dialog. Delightfully rare are the liberals with whom you can engage in fruitful dialog. Generally, it is a waste of effort. You'll both walk away further apart than when you started. Such is the diabolical scheme of the liberal leadership to protect their growing dominance over rational conservatives.
This leads us to pondering ways to attack the core philosophical foundation of liberals. If their confidence can be shaken, they can begin to listen and learn. Then, our great conservative voices on talk radio, the Internet and elsewhere can make further inroads. But, their foundation must be shaken in order to create an opening for listening. Eventually reality does have a way of intruding on liberal fiction. But, it can be extremely painful as the jubilant citizens of Communist China, Russia and Nazi Germany found out the hard way. Unfortunately, liberals can maintain their narratives (blaming somebody besides themselves, this time maybe Christians) until tyranny is in full swing. Then, it is too late.
An alternative, advocated by my website, is the "hit and run" conservative message. Very simple points, presented in an unavoidable way, may cause liberals to soften their stance. They can not talk back (except by body language, which means the message hit home) and can not find other reasons to discount the message. This technique, the use of a simple bumper sticker, has many advantages.
The website, www.freespeechstickers.com has many simple, but conservative, ideas. Some are fun, but most are serious pings at the liberal worldview. They can be printed for free on magnetic material or on regular sticker paper. With magnetic materials, the message can change daily. Furthermore, the stickers can be used occasionally, if desired, and removed at the end of the trip.
If you are driving into the liberal heartland, affix the sticker of your choice, then remove and hide when you reach your destination. Since these are print-your-own, new topics can appear on bumper stickers quickly, instantly printed and displayed in minutes. Tradition tells us that older citizens become more conservative, as their rational brains mature. Thus, if many Americanâs can display these simple points, we may have some hope of restoring sanity to America's politics and policy, as we convert the millions and millions of Kool-Aid infected youth. We will also encourage each other to keep up the good fight, knowing there are still like-minded souls in American, who are not ready to yield our great country to an ill conceived liberal experiment. So, let's keep doing the organizing, let's keep doing the Tea Parties, writing the letters, calling Congress, holding marches on Washington or whatever.
But, remember that ultimately we need to reclaim a majority to truly win.
